Engine Tuning Programs
The engine tuning options below describe what tunes are available through the Power Pup and their recommended use.
• Stock: Choosing the Stock engine tune will result in no change to engine horsepower output. All other downloader features can still be accessed if the Stock engine tune is chosen.
• Tow: This engine tune is recommended for use while towing, it is a mild tune that increases performance by 40 to 50 horsepower. This is the only tune that we recommend you tow with other than stock.
• Performance: This engine tune will yield up to 75 extra horsepower. Pyrometer and boost gauges are highly recommended while using this tune.
• Extreme: This engine tune will yield up to 120 extra horsepower. Pyrometer and boost gauges are highly recommended while using this tune. This tune is not available for the ‘07 6.7L motor.

The Edge Comp module maximizes engine efficiency by monitoring the RPM, timing, turbo boost pressure and fueling parameters. The module uses this information to determine and control both fueling and timing enhancements for the Bosch fuel injection pump. Timing and fueling enhancements are controlled via CAN-BUS through the Data Link and by connecting directly into the Bosch fuel injection pump. The Edge Comp features five power levels with power gains from 40-120 horsepower. Each of the five power levels has an independent five-level adjustable responsiveness setting, providing for a total of 25 levels of adjustability! The responsiveness settings enable you to dial-in the optimum balance between responsiveness and low boost smoke control, no matter what additional power modifications have been made to the engine. The Comp module is fully adjustable on the fly and mounts inside the cab. Sub-levels 1-3 on the Comp will provide de-fueling below stock. The de-fueling mode is entered only when rpm and boost are below a set value and stock fueling is being increased beyond a set rate. These conditions are different for each sub-level 1-3. During operation, when the de-fueling mode is entered, the rate of fueling increase is limited, which reduces smoke. De-fuel mode is exited once stock fueling equals the fueling controlled by the Comp. This way the transition is smooth and cannot be felt while driving. De-fuel mode is entered the easiest in sub-level 1 and has the smallest allowable fuel increase, while sub-level 3 de-fuel mode is not entered as easily and has a larger allowable fuel increase. Sub-levels 4 and 5 allow adjustment of the additional fueling above stock based on boost level. Sub-level 5 adds the most fuel at low boost; Sub-level 4, which adds less fuel than Sub-level 5, corresponds to jumper setting 2 on the EZ. The amount of additional fuel added is calculated, the amount actually added after being compared to boost from the total is as shown below: Sub level 1: 33% is added at 0 psi boost
100% is added at 20 psi boost Sub level 2: 50% is added at 0 psi boost
100% is added at 15 psi boost Sub level 3: 67% is added at 0 psi boost
100% is added at 10 psi boost Fuel may be added at 0 psi boost on all Sub Levels and EZ Jumper settings unless the de-fuel mode is entered as described above. Power Level 1 on the Comp is the same as the EZ; on Power Levels 2-5 additional power is added via the wire tap onto the injection pump. If the pump wire is not attached with a Comp, Levels 2-5 are still operational, but the power gain is not any higher than Level 1. Under this scenario, however, power will come on much earlier in the throttle

The Cummins motor is one of the most powerful motors ever put in a pickup truck. The Edge EZ module unleashes the potential of this monster by carefully monitoring RPM, turbo boost pressure and fueling parameters and adjusting fueling to maximize power, torque and driveability.
The Edge EZ module allows maximum fueling at full turbo boost and provides an additional 65 rear wheel horsepower and an additional 150 foot pounds of torque. Simply plug the Power Edge EZ connectors into the ECM Data Link connection and MAP sensor. The Edge EZ is completely weatherproof and mounts under the hood. For 2004.5 and later trucks, the EZ has three levels of adjustability ranging from 25 to 65 additional horsepower.

The Power Pup downloader works on both the 03-04 Dodge Common Rail Cummins and the new 04.5 Cummins 600. The Power Pup is built to increase horsepower and torque by re-flashing the ECU with performance tuned programs. It does this by plugging into the OBDII port that is located underneath the dash. The Power Pup gives the user the choice between upgrading to a Tow (50hp), Performance (90hp) or Extreme (130hp). Test Cell Conditions
The test cell is arranged to test the engines under ideal conditions relating to the diesel fuel delivery system. The test cell fuel tanks are stationary and located six (6) to ten (10) feet above the engine. This setup provides two things that do not exist in the real world. One, positive fuel pressure to the injection pump. Two, diesel fuel free from fuel vapor and entrained air. This is directly related to the stationary fuel tank. With no agitation there is virtually no entrained air in the fuel and with the fuel being at a positive pressure to the pump, no fuel vapor is being produced!!
Real World Conditions
In the real world, the fuel tanks are usually mounted at least two (2) feet below and ten (10) feet away from the fuel pump, This configuration creates multiple problems associated with the fuel delivery to the engine. First, the injection pump has to draw the fuel from the tank by creating a vacuum. When diesel fuel is drawn by a vacuum fuel vapor is produced. Second, while the vehicle is underway the fuel is sloshing around in the fuel tanks creating entrained air. This circumstance has created a situation far from the test cell conditions which results in air and vapor being mixed in with the fuel when it is delivered to the injector. By having entrained air and air vapor in the fuel the engine does not perform at the engine manufacturer's specification. Air and fuel vapor occupy the space that should have pure fuel, thus delaying the injection of fuel into the combustion chamber. This phenomenon is better known as "RETARDED TIMING." The air/vapor present in fuel is very inconsistent making it virtually impossible to adapt the varying degrees of changes in injection timing. The retarded injections cause a multitude of problems in the combustion chamber!

TorqLoc:
Torque converters in the newer trucks have 2 stages: (1) a fluid coupling occurs first when you are starting, accelerating or pulling up a big hill, (2) when you are cruising at a constant speed the lock up portion of the converter is engaged and 100% of each rpm is transferred through the converter, just like a standard clutch. With the TorqLoc toggle switch in the first position the lock up clutch is engaged and 100% of the rpm is transferred, transmission temperatures remain low and engine retarders work at 100%. This position is manual and should only be used manually just like a gear would be selected. Factory convertor (and aftermarket) clutch and drive clutch designs have torque limitations and this function should only be used under light load and light power conditions. A adjustable pressure switch is available to disengage the lock up clutch once a set boost pressure or load has been achieved. The second position converts the application back to stock operation or it can be wired to unloc the convertor. The third position is an AutoLoc position that only maintains a lock up when the stock computer has already established a circuit. This position can be safely selected for retarding or under heavy power and load applications. This position can be selected for every day driving in all situations. The TorqLoc also has an overdrive inverter option to have the transmission start in drive. The lock up can be set to hold on untill 5-10 MPH if you have 2nd gear lock up for slow driving condidtions. |

AutoLoc:
The BD AutoLoc is a computer that commands the torque convertor lock-up clutch to stay applied when an exhaust brake is engaged. The AutoLoc ensures that 100% of the retarding force is being transferred in 3rd and 4th gears, thus, transmission oil temperatures remain low because convertor slippage no longer occurs in these gears. The lock-up clutch and brake automatically disengage at low speeds to prevent stalling and transmission and convertor damage. The convertor lock up clutch applies with accelerator pedal pressure, and the AutoLoc captures this signal. After shifting out or into overdrive in Dodge trucks, apply heavy accelerator pedal pressure or quickly release the pedal and the lock up clutch will engage. Exhaust brakes cause high automatic fluid temperatures due to the torque converter slippage and without a AutoLoc only 10-80% of the retarding force is transferred through the (unlocked) fluid coupling of a torque convertor. You can drive the truck with the AutoLoc engaged all the time. If you experience a shutter when you slow down in over drive with the AutoLoc engaged, you need to have the AutoLoc reset to disengage at a higher vehicle speed. However, variances occur due to rear ratios and tire sizes. |

The peak operating levels can be set to flash warning for safety. The low mount does not restrict vision. Peak levels are saved in memory and can be viewed after a trip. The exhaust temperatures are monitored with a Pyrometer probe inserted in the exhaust flow. The probe can be mounted before of after the turbocharger. If mounted after the turbo the temperatures will vary from 300° F to 1000° F. If mounted before the turbo temperatures of 300° F to 1200° F will be normal working levels. Super B Twin:
Designed for high-powered '94-'06 5.9 liter Cummins applications without cylinder head modifications, the Super B twin can easily flow enough air for up to 575 rwhp on diesel only. Add a BD Cool-It intercooler and a shot of nitrous oxide, and watch the power level climb to 800+! Great street and strip driveability, easy installation, and the factory oil coolers can be retained.
Note: BD turbocharger systems will require fuel system upgrades and may require a larger BD Cool-It intercooler. Contact a BD representative for details.
1989-1993 Cummins 5.9 engines have a variety of large turbine housings that all result in a large turbo lag before boost is developed. The above years will benefit by changing to a 16 sq cm housing to a non-waste gated turbine housing part #1045910 on stock or engines that have had high flow injectors installed
1994-1999 stock engines have the 12 sq cm w/g hsg that can be quite restrictive when the power is increased above 300 flywheel HP and results in high exhaust temperature.
2001 automatic transmission equipped engines have a 9 or 10 sq cm hsg that is too restrictive for a high power increase (beyond the 300 hp)
2003 and 04 Super B kits include an adapter so the turbo mount exhaust brake can bolt up; later models require a remote mount exhaust brake. 2003-04 Engines that have any more than a 100 hp increase will cause the stock turbo to over speed, surge and fail.
