03-06 DODGE CUMMINS POWERMAXCR™ ADJ W/BUILT IN PYRO & BOOST GAUGES

TST has been running the PowerMaxCR (PMCR) since October \'02 and finally released it for sale in December of \'03 for the Cummins Common Rail Ram Diesel.

We have been testing stock Dodge common rail trucks since May \'02 and have had about a hundred different \'03, \'04, \'04.5, & \'05 Rams on our dyno, HO�s, Automatics, and one 5 speed California 235 hp version. Except for the California truck, we are seeing much better stock power to the ground than the previous engines.

The maximum power gains we've seen to date is an extra 190 whp (wheel horsepower) at 2900 rpm and an extra 580 pound-feet of torque at 1700 rpm. The only power upgrade was our plug-in computer, no wires to cut or Scotchlock. These numbers were obtained with the stock turbo (added a boost elbow to turn boost up to about 40 psi to help reduce exhaust gas temperature), stock exhaust, and stock air filter (enlarged the opening into the air filter box). We also had to install an aftermarket clutch as the stock clutch gave up at about 800 lb-ft. A pusher fuel pump was added in series with the stock lift pump when we went above 120 extra wheel horsepower as engine would miss without it.

We are advancing timing and extending the open time in the injector solenoid on the main injection pulse. We do not extend the pilot pulse and do NOT increase fuel rail pressure, which has been shown to damage the high pressure rail components. Most competitive computers currently turn up rail pressure and they are very limited to power and torque increases before reaching the rail pressure relief valve limit.

The PowerMaxCR has 10 power levels @ 2900 rpm and 10 torque levels @ 1600 rpm that are adjustable under power on the fly. Setting the power level and the torque level on zero turns truck power back to stock. Power level #1 advances timing only for good fuel mileage, reduced exhaust temperature, and adds about 30 wheel horsepower but does not add extra fuel. Power levels 2 thru 9 add increasing amounts of fuel and 20 horsepower per step at 2900 rpm. Each torque setting step adds 60 additional foot pounds of torque at 1600 rpm.

Now available for the 2003-2006 POWERMAXCR line up is the new R-49 remote with Cool Down and Boost Limit functions that allow the user to set the shut down exhaust gas temperature and the shut down idle time for the Cool Down feature, and the maximum turbo boost pressure for the Boost Limit feature.

We call this usable power - all the way across the power band at the speeds and in the gears where you need it.

Our system also produces a very flat torque curve. This means, once our maximum torque is reached, torque falls off very slowly as RPMs increase toward maximum horsepower. This gives your engine excellent pulling characteristics by keeping torque output high all the way up the power band until maximum horsepower and RPM is reached. (JUST IMAGINE!)

One of the most frequent complaints we hear about stock engines is slow throttle response. Our system significantly increases throttle response right off the bottom and all the way across the entire RPM range. You will know it when you push on the pedal. Improved throttle response combined with the extra power, results in a much more enjoyable driving experience. You will be able to merge, pass, and move away from undesirable traffic situations in ways you never thought possible with a larger vehicle. You may be able to accelerate in up to half the time. Your speeds under load will increase 20-35 MPH on grades of 5 to 8%. Grades of 5% or less will no longer slow you down at all.

In the first few seconds behind the wheel, you will definitely FEEL THE DIFFERENCE !

Don't shut your hot engine down after a hard run. Switching your engine off after a heavy haul when the exhaust temperature is above normal engine idle temperature can result in turbo bearing damage.

With the engine stopped there is no oil flow over the bearings that support the hot turbocharger wheel assembly. This causes the residue oil being burned and the resulting carbon will cause premature turbo failure!

You can prevent this from happening with the Cool Down Timer or the Cool Engine Shutdown!

Simply set the shutdown temperature, lock the door and walk away. The engine will shutdown at the specified temperature.

Peak levels are saved in memory and can be viewed after a run. The exhaust temperatures are monitored with a Pyrometer probe inserted in the exhaust flow. The probe can be mounted before of after the turbocharger. If mounted after the turbo the temperatures will vary from 300° F to 1000° F. If mounted before the turbo temperatures of 300° F to 1200° F will be normal working levels. Select the temperatures that should not be exceeded and the numbers will flash when it is attained. It is hard to have too much turbocharger boost pressure but if you have too little under a hard pull the result can be high operating temperatures. Transmission oil temperatures will reflect how hard you are working the transmission. The oil begins to break down quickly once it reaches 270° F. Higher temperatures cause transmission life to shorten, set the limit at the 250° F and increase the operating life. We can also monitor the fuel transfer pump pressure on the ISB electronic engines. A Pyrometer to monitor exhaust temperatures. The Turbo Boost gauge keeps track of a turbo pressures. A Back Pressure gauge monitors exhaust brake performance.
